What a firewall does, how BRANDED IAM configures it, and what a firewall alert means if you see one.
A firewall is your network's first line of defense — it monitors all traffic entering and leaving your network and blocks anything that matches known threat signatures or violates your security rules.
What a Firewall Does
- Blocks unauthorized access: Prevents outsiders from connecting to your internal systems unless explicitly permitted.
- Controls outbound traffic: Can block employees from accessing dangerous or non-work websites.
- Detects intrusion attempts: Identifies and alerts on patterns consistent with port scanning, brute-force attacks, and other intrusion tactics.
- VPN termination point: For site-to-site VPNs, the firewall manages secure connections between your office and remote locations.
How BRANDED IAM Manages Your Firewall
On managed plans, we configure and maintain your firewall appliance or cloud firewall, apply firmware updates, and review firewall logs monthly. Any significant threat events are escalated and reported in your monthly IT health report.
If You See a Firewall Alert
If you receive a firewall alert email or notification, do not dismiss it without reporting it. Submit a ticket with the full alert text copied in. Most alerts are benign (blocked spam bots or routine scan attempts), but some require investigation. We'll review and tell you exactly what happened within your plan's SLA window.
