Data Backup Policy Explained

What data BRANDED IAM backs up, how often, where it's stored, and how to request a restore.

Data loss can happen in an instant — a ransomware attack, an accidental deletion, or a hardware failure. A comprehensive backup policy ensures your business can recover quickly with minimal data loss and downtime.

What We Back Up

  • Website files and database: Daily automated backups, 30-day retention.
  • Microsoft 365: Email, OneDrive files, SharePoint, and Teams data — backed up daily through a third-party Microsoft 365 backup service. Microsoft's own retention policies don't protect you from accidental deletion; this does.
  • On-site servers: If you have a local server under management, we configure automated backups to an offsite or cloud destination with at least 30-day retention.

Backup Storage Locations

All backups are stored in geographically separate locations from the primary data source. Website backups are stored in a separate cloud region. Microsoft 365 backups are stored in a different cloud provider altogether, ensuring that a single vendor outage can't take out both your live data and your backups simultaneously.

Recovery Time Objectives

  • Website restore: Typically 1–2 hours.
  • Microsoft 365 email or file restore: Individual items within 2–4 hours; full mailbox restore within 4–8 hours.
  • Server restore: Depends on data volume; your account manager can provide a specific estimate for your environment.
